passion for the hunt

Matthew Roberts grew up in Vermont, drawn early to both the hunt and the mechanical perfection of the rifle. After formal gunsmithing training at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona, he returned home in 2012 to establish MNR Custom LLC — a one-man shop in Weathersfield dedicated to building rifles that exceed every expectation.

As a member of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild and a board member of the Dallas Safari Club Northeast, Matthew brings the craftsman's eye and the hunter's instinct to every build. He also serves as a Vermont youth hunter education instructor. His work has been described by Roger Rule — author of The Rifleman's Rifle — as “on par with any of the best reputable makers.”

Consultation

A conversation about your hunting style, quarry, terrain, and physical dimensions. This shapes every decision that follows.

Specification

Action, chambering, barrel profile and length, stock wood and dimensions, metal finish. Every detail is documented and agreed upon before work begins.

Craftsmanship

Matthew builds your rifle by hand in his Vermont shop. No production shortcuts. The work — and the time it takes — speaks for itself.

Quality Check

Full function test, accuracy verification, and cosmetic inspection. The rifle does not leave the shop until it meets Matthew's exacting standard.

Delivery

Delivered in person or shipped via FFL transfer. Full documentation included. The hunt begins.

What to expect

How long does a custom build take?

Lead times vary by project scope and current workload. A full custom rifle build typically runs 12–24 months. Contact Matthew directly for current wait times and scheduling before committing to a project.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes — MNR Custom operates by appointment only. Reach Matthew at (802) 384-0599 or mnrcustomguns@gmail.com to schedule a consultation, drop-off, or pick-up. Hours are Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm EST.

How do I ship a firearm for service?

When shipping, include a copy of your driver’s license and a written description of the work requested. Contact Matthew first for the correct shipping address and FFL transfer details. All applicable federal and state laws apply.

What calibers and action types do you work with?

MNR Custom works across a wide range of calibers and action types. Whether you have a specific platform in mind or want guidance on what fits your intended use, Matthew will walk you through the options during consultation.

Do you accept guns on consignment?

Yes. MNR Custom accepts firearms on consignment. Contact Matthew to discuss the process, expected timeline, and commission structure for your specific firearm.
